FAQs

What kind of foundation do I need?

All of our mattresses can be used on a variety of foundations. Our Serta Foundation, traditional box springs, platform frames with no more than 2" between slats, or adjustable bases all work well.

We recommend ensuring any foundation you use is in good working shape, as an issue with the foundation could impact the comfort and longevity of your mattress.

Do I need a mattress protector?

A mattress protector is not required when purchasing a mattress through Serta.com. However, we do recommend using a mattress protector to keep your mattress safe from accidents, spills, liquids, dust, and anything else that could cause it to break down along the way.

How can I compare mattresses available in a store to the mattresses available on the website?

Our mattresses are available for purchase at many different retailers throughout the United States. We allow retailers to choose and add a different showroom name to the mattresses they are selling in order to make the model unique within their store.

Since the model names may vary from retailer to retailer, the best way to compare these products is by looking at the product line and comfort level.

We recommend you test the products at different retailers in your area and base your decision on personal comfort level and price range.

How to shop for a mattress

Mattress shopping can seem overwhelming. There are so many questions to ask yourself—Do I need a plush, medium, or firm mattress? Am I a back, stomach, or side sleeper? Should I buy a mattress online? What about these beds in a box? We’re trying to make shopping for a bed easier so you can get better sleep. Sleep positions may seem confusing, but just take a note of what position you fall asleep and wake up in for a few nights. This will help you determine what level of comfort and support you may need. Next, determine your price point so you only look for affordable options that are best for you. Lastly, check your frame size. Mattresses typically come in Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King, and Cal King.
